Comprehensive Anesthesia Care
Patient Information
Ideal Anesthesia Services, P.C. specializes in office anesthesia.
Our CRNA's (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists) are RNs who have completed specialized training in anesthesia for a minimum of two years. Most have graduate degrees in Nurse Anesthesia. All CRNA's are appropriately licensed and certified.
CRNA's provide over 60% of the anesthetics administered in our country each year, and are the pioneers in delivering anesthesia in the office setting.
Your surgeon has requested that we provide anesthesia care for your procedure.
Your Nurse Anesthetist will call you the evening before surgery to discuss your medical history, anesthetic and answer any questions that you may have. Your CRNA's will discuss the types of anesthetic options you have. He/She will call you the evening of your procedure to check your progress. Please notify us if you will be at a different number after surgery.
Remember not to have anything to eat or drink for 8 hours before your procedure. Your Anesthetist may have you take certain medications that may benefit you during your anesthetic. (Medications for your heart or blood pressure)
When you arrive for your procedure, we will have you sign a consent for anesthesia, and release for billing for the anesthetic. If your procedure is covered by insurance, we will bill insurance directly. You will only be responsible for charges in accordance with your insurance plan. Financial arrangements will be made with those patients whose procedures are not covered by insurance.
We will start an I.V. to administer medications to relax you and make you comfortable during the procedure. We will monitor your heart rate /rhythm, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, breathing and temperature during the procedure. Your anesthetist will constantly monitor you during the anesthetic. You should be ready for discharge within 30 to 60 minutes after your procedure. The medications and methods for administering anesthesia carry lower risks of nausea and vomiting than older agents. If you are prone to nausea, let your CRNA know so that we can take further precaution to decrease that possibility. Even though we are in an office setting, we maintain ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification, and maintain all the recommended medications and equipment to deal with any emergency situations.
After the procedure, you will need a responsible adult to take you home.
Although you will be awake and alert enough to leave the facility after your procedure,
The anesthesia medications may stay in your system for up to 24 hours. Many patients take a nap when they arrive home, and may not feel like their normal selves until the next day. Please arrange for someone to care for your children/family on the day of your procedure. You are not to drive a car, drink alcohol or make any important decisions for 24 hours after the anesthetic. You can eat and drink when you arrive home after the procedure. We recommend that you begin with light, bland food and drink, and progress your diet as tolerated.
